There's always been intrigue and adventure at the heart of Calexico. Joey Burns and John Convertino have constantly imbued their music with an unparalleled sense of drama, calling upon the myths and iconography of the American West and its Spanish speaking neighbor Mexico. After a flat-footed assault on mainstream indie rock on 2006's Garden Ruin, Calexico's dusty vistas make a welcome comeback. Cue florid mariarchi horns and whispery vocals ruminating on drives down that endless highway. While always centered around John Convertino and Joey Burns, the spicy, Southwest-inflected band Calexico is an open, collaborative venture. Last heard from chumming it up with music biz luminaries on the I'm Not There soundtrack, Burns and Convertino get favors returned on Carried to Dust, Calexico's follow-up to 2006's Garden Ruin. The rest of Calexico is fleshed out by the same band members who played on 2003's Feast of Wire. Guests on Carried to Dust include Iron and Wine main man Sam Beam, who joined Calexico for 2005's In the Reins, and Doug McCombs, who has played with Tortoise and Eleventh Dream Day. Gypsy, latin, love and acustic guitar. This is ok from the first track. Fifteen okedoke Calexico tracks, promoting sleep and sometimes it's a little boring country music. I love Calexico when they put an interesting song between these boring southwestern American musical styles. Writer's Minor Holiday may be the best example their diverse sound.

Carried To Dust occasionally full of emotion and that becomes romantic in night. Neither Tarantino movies Nor Western music interests me that much. Calexico insistently provides same sound and same songs, whistles and all other lazy theme.
