Yes, if you were among the tens of fans braving the monsoon-like conditions at Spruce Meadows Wednesday, that was the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen, wading around in rubber boots and a rain slicker
Springsteen was in town with wife Patti Scialfa to watch their 17-year-old daughter Jessica compete at the Spruce Meadows Horse competition. (Springsteen, who is reputed to be somewhat of an equestrian prodigy, competed in the North American Ring at 3:30pm).
The Boss wasn't too keen on doing interviews Wednesday, however, preferring to play the behind-the-scenes proud poppa there to support Jessica.
"Really, I just try to stay out of it (the spotlight)," he said. "We're just here with our daughter.
"When I come to these events," he added, "I try to give my daughter all the room she needs."
As much as we'd love to knock back a few brew and talk about all things E-Street, it's kind of tough to argue with the Boss there -- and standing in a horse stall, dripping wet, he seemed a lot more supportive dad than rock legend for an afternoon anyhow.
Tuesday night, Springsteen and Scialfa celebrated a milestone of their own: their 19th wedding anniversary.
They toasted the occasion at Paul Rogalski and Olivier Reynaud's increasingly legendary Rouge, the Inglewood eatery that recently was named one of the top 100 restaurants in the world.
"He was great," said a young woman who works at Rouge, who asked not to be identified. "He enjoyed everything. It was fun."
When asked if the Boss simply arrived sans reservation to the most popular restaurant in town, she said no.
"It was an advance reservation," she said. "It was very well planned out and he was a good guy."
Was she a fan?
"I'm 18 years old!" she said. "I didn't really know his music. I've heard of him."
