Janesville native Kathlynn Federici, whose 1987 marriage to a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street band drew celebrities and hundreds of fans to Janesville, has died.
Federici, 52, died Monday at her home in Chatsworth, Calif. She had Crohn's Disease, a debilitating inflammation of the digestive system, although her family was not certain this morning about the cause of her death.
Federici had been ill for some time, said Mary Helmeid, the wife of Federici's father, but the death was a surprise to the family.
Formerly Kathlynn Helmeid, Federici graduated from Parker High School in 1972.
"She sailed right through without any problems at all," said her father, Don Helmeid.
Federici was working as an airline attendant when she met her former husband, Danny Federici, on a flight. Danny was an organist in the E Street Band.
The two were married at Asbury United Methodist Church on Kellogg Avenue on Sept. 16, 1987. Springsteen was the best man.
The couple moved to California in 1991.
The Federicis adopted two daughters: Madison, 10, and Harley, 9. The girls came after years of failed adoption attempts.
"For the last eight years, that's all I wanted-to be a mom," Federici told The Janesville Gazette after Madison's baptism at Asbury United Methodist in August 1996.
The couple separated in 2000; Kathlynn filed for divorce in 2002.
The funeral will be in Janesville, but arrangements are pending.
