Hallo zusammen,

Betreff: Greetings from the Springsteen Special Collection
An: undisclosed-recipients: ;
Well, folks, it is finally April, and the countdown toward Devils & Dust
is for real. Hard to believe we're only 23 days away from having
Bruce's latest on our CD players. If shorter periods between albums is
a consequence of middle age, then I say bring it on.
It is also hard for me to believe that Devils & Dust is the second album
of new material since the founding of the Springsteen Special Collection
in late 2001. The release corresponds to a period of significant
activity for the Collection, and I'd like to quickly bring you
up-to-date.
DEVILS & DUST IN THE COLLECTION. First and foremost, we'd like to ask
your help securing news and reviews of the album and the upcoming tour
for the Collection. The Collection has great book, magazine and fanzine
coverage of earlier albums and tours, and we want to be sure that the
new album is thoroughly covered as well. If you have coverage to
donate, drop me a note at
pbjcrane@erols.com and we'll work out the
details.
THE SUPPORT GROUP HAS INCORPORATED. The 10 fans who work most closely
on the Collection have now formalized our existence as the Friends of
the Bruce Springsteen Special Collection, and within a month or two,
we'll be announcing plans for taking on members. We recently met with
the curator of the Woody Guthrie Archives, who helped us put together
plans for the future, and we've been working with an archival specialist
from the Monmouth County Historical Society, who is our preservation guru.
WEB SITE (PROBLEMS FINALLY SOLVED!) For more months than I care to
remember, the Asbury Park Public Library's web site, including the
Special Collection pages, was down more than it was up. So recently,
the Library shifted to a new host. Since then, there have been
absolutely no problems -- thank goodness! You'll now find us at:

STORAGE SPACE AT THE LIBRARY (Problem nearly solved!) One of the sad
truths about Asbury Park is that progress is a long time coming. The
Special Collection outgrew its storage space at the Library oh, about 17
months ago. Slowly, ever so slowly, the Library put together a new plan
which has now been approved by the Library's Board of Trustees. We are
getting a new, very secure storage area that gives us at least 75% more
shelf space. The space should be ready in another one to two months.
This will be a huge stride forward, and make it much easier for everyone
to use the Collection.
So that's the news from our little corner of the community. Thank you
for your interest in the Collection, and help in getting us this far.
We now have over 3,500 items -- an increase of over 2,500 in the last
two and a half years -- and with Devils & Dust, we'll be pushing toward
another red letter day. Enjoy the album!
Bob Crane
